About My Experience
I was born in the Great Smokey Mountains in east Tennessee and have experienced a diversity of work and experiences mainly in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. My career development has included being a medic, working in an emergency room, running a Hospital in the Yemen, oil exploration on land and at sea, business management, business consultancy, and of course being a psychotherapist. My work has taken me to more than 90 countries around the world and taught me many lessons about other cultures and individuals as well as myself.

My journey to becoming a qualified psychotherapist began in the late 60’s when I worked with substance abusers in Utah and Arizona. Part of my journey was working on psychiatric unit at the University Medical Center, Salt Lake City. My introduction to therapy was to Gestalt, TA, Psychometric Testing, and Psychodrama, all as a client and a practitioner. In 1988 I took the introductory course to Psychodynamic Psychotherapy at the University of Kent in Canterbury. In 1989 I began the M.A. in Psychotherapy and Counselling course at Antioch, now known as Regents College and completed my Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy training with the IPSS in June 2003.

As I move forward in life I am contemplating further enhancement of my psychotherapy skills, perhaps writing a book, and elaborating on my personal theories of psychotherapy and counselling. This is in the context of expanding my horizons through boating and the practical skills needd to be safe ashore and at sea. Please contact me for more info.
