Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy
Psychoanalytic psychotherapy draws on theories and practices of psychoanalysis. It is
a therapeutic treatment that helps patients understand and resolve
their problems by increasing awareness of their inner world and its
influence over relationships both past and present.
The work is centred on helping people
understand and change complex, deep-seated and often unconsciously
based emotional and relationship problems. This includes many people
who experience a loss of meaning in their lives or who are seeking a
greater sense of fulfilment.

Being a Psychotherapist
Working
in a way that provides safety for the patient and me is most important. Training to a professional
standards and maintaining those standards is a requirement for anyone who
wishes to be considered a professional.
For a psychoanalytic psychotherapist it
is more, it is having been through the same work we ask others to
engage in and for some continuous clinical supervision to support our
continued awareness.
The notion of firstly do no harm from medical
practitioners is very much part of my code of practice.
